The Kulungwana Association for Cultural Development will be hosting its annual Colecção Crescente exhibition at its gallery at the Central Railway Station in Maputo during the month of March/April.
Each year, a theme is selected and over 80 local artists (established & emerging) are invited to enter their artwork based on the chosen theme. The works, in a variety of mixed media, are presented on MDF blocks, 18 by 18 centimeters in size.
As one of the main sponsors and longstanding supporters of arts and culture in Mozambique, Hollard Mozambique, has increased their involvement in this year’s edition of the Colecção Crescente by setting up an annual prize in recognition of the best works.
The winners will be selected by three especially chosen local and international judges and based on specific criteria, the participating artists will stand a chance to be presented the new Better Futures Award, sponsored by Hollard Mozambique. The Better Futures Award is inspired out of Hollard’s overarching purpose to ensure better futures by doing what Hollard does, for people and businesses in Mozambique.
Besides the possibility of an invitation to exhibit in SA, at the internationally acclaimed Turbine Art Fair through the White River Art Gallery, the Better Futures Award winners will have the opportunity to attend a 5-days, all-expenses-paid workshop at The Artists’ Press in South Africa. They will be able to work in the studio alongside Mark Atwood (Tamarind Master Printer) and Jacky Tsila (Editioning printer) to learn new artistic techniques and how printing and publishing art adds another dimension to their works.
Through their new skills, these artists will be able to produce monoprints that could be on-sold or exhibited upon completion of the workshop. Hollard’s and Kulungwana`s vision is that the new award will facilitate and create an expanded exposure for our Mozambican art talent, thereby promoting better futures!
Kind regards,
